Policy Statement

The Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (JNSChE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publishing, ensuring integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in all aspects of its operations. This policy statement outlines the journal’s editorial, ethical, and operational guidelines to support authors, reviewers, editors, and readers.

1. Editorial Policy

The Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers publishes original research, reviews, communications, notes, and letters to the editor in the field of Chemical Engineering, with a focus on new processes and innovative adaptations of existing ones. The journal is published twice annually (March/April and September/October) and adheres to the following editorial principles:

  • Peer Review: All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer-review process managed by the Editorial Board and a pool of qualified reviewers to ensure objectivity, quality, and relevance.
  • Originality: Manuscripts must represent original work. Authors are responsible for ensuring their submissions have not been published elsewhere and are free from plagiarism.
  • Author Responsibility: Authors must verify the accuracy of data and statements, obtain ethical clearance, and secure written permission for any copyrighted material used.
  • Transparency: All authors listed on a manuscript must have made significant contributions to the research. Financial support and potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed.

2. Ethical Guidelines for Reviewers

Reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the journal’s quality. The following guidelines ensure a fair and ethical review process:

  • Objectivity: Reviewers’ judgments must be objective, based on the manuscript’s scientific merit, relevance, and originality.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves if they cannot provide an impartial review.
  • Confidentiality: Reviewed manuscripts are treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed outside the review process.
  • Plagiarism and Citation: Reviewers are required to identify any relevant published work not cited by the authors and to flag potential plagiarism or prior publication.
  • Response Options: Reviewers may accept or decline to review a manuscript. If declining, they should provide reasons (e.g., inadequate knowledge, time constraints, or other reasons) and may suggest alternative reviewers with their names and email addresses.

3. Publication and Copyright Policy

The journal enforces the following policies regarding publication and intellectual property:

  • Copyright: By submitting a manuscript, authors agree that the copyright of published material is transferred to the Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers.
  • Author Views: Published papers reflect the views of their authors, and the publisher and editors bear no responsibility for these views or any errors.
  • Retractions and Corrections: Authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections for any identified mistakes in their published work.
  • Prohibition on Duplicate Publication: Submitting the same research to multiple journals is strictly prohibited.

4. Financial Policies

The journal operates a fee-based model to support its publication process. All payments must be made online through the journal’s designated payment platform. The following fees apply, payable after manuscript acceptance:

  • Manuscript Review Charges: N6,500 (Members and Non-Members) or $30.00 (Overseas).
  • Publication Charges: N10,000 (Non-Members and Members not financially up-to-date) or $40.00 (Overseas).
  • Free Copies: Members receive one free journal copy per edition, and the corresponding author receives one free copy per published paper. Additional copies may be purchased.
  • Payment Process: All payments must be completed online via the journal’s secure payment portal, accessible through the journal website. Upon payment, Payments via other offline methods are no longer accepted.

Fees are subject to periodic review by the Governing Board of Directors. Instructions for accessing the online payment portal will be provided upon manuscript acceptance.

5. Privacy Statement

The Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers is committed to protecting the privacy of its authors, reviewers, and subscribers. Names, email addresses, and payment information provided to the journal will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of the journal (e.g., manuscript submission, review, publication, and payment processes) and will not be shared with any third party. All online transactions are processed through a secure payment platform compliant with industry-standard encryption protocols.

6. Submission and Communication

Manuscripts should be submitted via email to nschejournal@yahoo.com, with a copy to stevmomoh@yahoo.com. All correspondence, including reviewer feedback and payment confirmations, will be handled through these channels. An online submission system, integrated with the payment portal, will be available soon.

7. Subscription Information

The journal offers subscriptions at the following rates per volume, payable online through the journal’s payment portal:

  • Individual Reader: N3,000.00
  • Institutions, Libraries, etc.: N5,000.00
  • Overseas Subscription: $100.00

8. Reprints

Reprints are available at a moderate fee per page, payable through the online payment portal. Orders must be placed before the paper appears in print. Contact the Editor-in-Chief for details.
