Submission Guidelines

The Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (JNSChE) welcomes submissions of original research, reviews, communications, notes, and letters to the editor in the field of Chemical Engineering. Below are the detailed guidelines for preparing and submitting manuscripts to ensure a smooth and efficient review process.

1. Types of Publication

The Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers publishes articles on original research in the science and technology of Chemical Engineering, with preference given to new processes or innovative adaptations of existing processes. Critical reviews on current topics are encouraged and may be solicited by the Editorial Board. The following types of articles are considered for publication:

  • Full-length Articles or Review Papers: Comprehensive studies or reviews on Chemical Engineering topics.
  • Communication: Preliminary reports on significant research findings.
  • Note: Short papers describing research findings not sufficiently complete for a full article.
  • Letter to the Editor: Comments or remarks on previously published materials by readers or authors.

Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy of data and statements. Authors must seek ethical clearance and written permission for any copyrighted material used. The journal is published twice annually in March/April and September/October.

2. Manuscript Requirements

Manuscripts must adhere to the following formatting and content guidelines to be considered for review:

  • Format and Style: Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise English and typed in Microsoft Word, single-column, using double spacing on A4-size paper, Times New Roman font, 12-point size. Full-length articles or reviews should not exceed 15 pages. Margins should be Normal (2.54 cm for Top, Bottom, Left, and Right).
  • Structure: Manuscripts should include the following sections: Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, and References.
  • Author Information: Include full names, addresses, and emails of all authors. For multiple authors, indicate the corresponding author with a functional email address. Example formats:
    • Momoh, S. O., Adisa, A. A., and Abubakar, A. S.
    • *Momoh, S. O.1, Adisa, A. A.2, and Abubakar, A. S.3 (use * to indicate the corresponding author).
  • Symbols and Units: Symbols should conform to the American Standard Association, as listed in the fourth edition of Perry’s Chemical Engineering Handbook. Include a Nomenclature section listing all symbols used. All units must be in SI units (e.g., kg, m, s, N).
  • Abstract: The abstract should be in English, not exceeding 200 words, summarizing the purpose, methodology, results, major findings, and conclusions. Abstracts are not required for Communications, Notes, or Letters.
  • Citations and References: Use Harvard format for citations (e.g., (Smith, 1990) or (Jones et al., 2011)) and references (listed alphabetically). Examples:
    • Haghi, A. K. and Ghanadzadeh, H. (2005). A Study of Thermal Drying Process. Indian Journal of Chemical Technology, Vol. 12, November 2005, pp. 654-663.
    • Kemp, I. C., Fyhr, C. B., Laurent, S., et al. (2001). Methods for Processing Experimental Drying Kinetic Data. Drying Technology, 19: 15-34.
For more details, visit Harvard Referencing Guide.
  • Tables and Figures: Tables should be numbered serially in Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) with captions at the top. Figures, charts, and graphs should also be numbered serially, with captions at the bottom. Ensure figures are readable in black and white, even if originally in color.
  • Equations: Use MS Word Equation Editor, center equations, and number them serially in Arabic numerals at the right margin. Use oblique slashes for fractions (e.g., x/y).
  • Footnotes: Footnotes should not be included in the text.
  • Acknowledgements: Place acknowledgements before the References section.

3. Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document to nschejournal@yahoo.com, with a copy to stevmomoh@yahoo.com. Online submission via the journal website will be available soon. Authors should ensure:

  • All listed authors have significantly contributed to the research.
  • Authors provide retractions or corrections for any mistakes.
  • All cited references are listed, and financial support is acknowledged.
  • The same research is not published in multiple journals.

Review and publication fees are as follows:

  • Manuscript Review Charges: N6,500 (Members and Non-Members) or $30.00 (Overseas).
  • Publication Charges: N10,000 (Non-Members and Members not financially up-to-date) or $40.00 (Overseas).
