Correction Policy

The Journal of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (JNSChE) is dedicated to upholding the integrity and accuracy of its published content. This Correction Policy details the procedures for addressing errors, revisions, and retractions to maintain scholarly standards and transparency. Authors, editors, and reviewers are integral to ensuring the quality of published work.

1. Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure the accuracy of their manuscripts, including data, statements, and references. Key responsibilities include:

  • Verifying the accuracy of all data and statements before submission.
  • Obtaining ethical clearance and permission for any copyrighted material used.
  • Providing corrections or retractions for any errors identified in published work.

Non-compliance with these responsibilities may necessitate corrections or retractions, as described below.

2. Types of Corrections

The journal recognizes two main types of corrections for published articles:

  • Minor Corrections: These address typographical errors, formatting issues, or minor inaccuracies (e.g., incorrect author affiliations, mislabeled figures, or grammatical errors) that do not impact the scientific validity of the work. Authors are encouraged to review typeset copies prior to publication to catch such errors.
  • Substantive Corrections: These involve significant errors affecting the research’s scientific validity or interpretation (e.g., incorrect data, methodology errors, or missing references). Authors must submit revised manuscripts, clearly highlighting changes, within two weeks of receiving feedback.

3. Correction Process

The journal employs a clear process for handling corrections:

  • Pre-Publication Corrections: During the peer-review process, authors receive reviewer feedback and must address suggested revisions within two weeks. Revised manuscripts may be re-evaluated by reviewers to ensure adherence to recommendations.
  • Post-Publication Corrections: Errors identified after publication can be reported by authors, readers, or other stakeholders to the Editor-in-Chief at journal@nsche.org. The Editorial Board will review the issue and, if necessary, publish a correction notice in the next available issue, linked to the original article.
  • Submission of Corrections: Authors must submit corrected manuscripts as Microsoft Word documents via email to journal@nsche.org, clearly marking changes and responding to feedback if required.

4. Retractions

Retractions are issued for significant issues compromising the integrity of published work, such as:

  • Grounds for Retraction: Retractions may occur due to plagiarism, duplicate publication, falsified data, or other ethical violations identified during or after the review process.
  • Notification: Authors are notified of rejections or retractions with detailed feedback to guide potential resubmission or submission elsewhere.
  • Retraction Notice: For retracted articles, a notice will be published in the journal, stating the reason for retraction and linked to the original article.

5. Editorial Board Responsibilities

The Editorial Board ensures corrections and retractions are managed transparently and efficiently:

  • The Editor-in-Chief oversees final decisions on corrections and retractions, ensuring ethical compliance.
  • The Managing Editor facilitates communication with authors and coordinates correction processing.
  • Reviewers provide objective feedback to identify errors or ethical concerns during the review process.

The journal clarifies that published articles reflect the authors’ views and data, and the publisher and editors are not responsible for errors or inaccuracies.

6. Contact for Corrections

To report errors or issues in published articles, contact the Editor-in-Chief at journal@nsche.org. All inquiries will be addressed promptly, and corrections or retractions will be processed according to this policy.
